Uber is tapping into the cannabis market for the first time.

A company spokesperson told Reuters on Monday that Uber Eats users in Ontario, Canada, would be able to order cannabis from its new partner Tokyo Smoke starting Monday, November 29.

Users cannot have the weed delivered, however. They will only be able to place orders for pick-up,

‘ head of communications for delivery, Meghan Casserly, confirmed to The Verge.

Uber did not immediately respond when asked by Insider why it would not deliver weed.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in April that the company would consider delivering weed in the US if cannabis were decriminalized at a federal level.

Canada legalized recreational marijuana in 2018.

When asked whether Uber was considering expanding weed operations beyond Ontario, a spokesperson told Reuters: “We will continue to watch regulations and opportunities closely market by market. And as local and federal laws evolve, we will explore opportunities with merchants who operate in other regions.”
